Lead Back End Developer - Contract


Lead Back-end Developer 



Experienced senior back-end developer expected to have the capacity to be the primary architect and lead developer of an MVP wealth management product on top of the core personal finance platform (a Java based solution).  Exciting opportunity to have a leadership role in a start-up environment.


The successful candidate will be:


  • leading a small team (2 people initially) to deliver a prototype & MVP of a new wealth management platform to market
  • responsible for server-side design choices and technology evolution
  • responsible for operational control of code & product quality incl. DevOps
  • expected to collaborate closely with the front-end development team in Australia
  • reporting to the leadership team in Dublin running the overall project delivery
  • the go-to person for technology choices and guidance to the rest of the team


Beyond MVP there will be further opportunities to continue in the venture.


Essential Requirements/Experience:


The Successful Candidate will have:


  • A third level computer science qualification – 2.1 degree or higher
  • 8+ years professional experience as a software engineer
  • A strong background in Java
  • Experience leading development projects and teams
  • Within your professional experience, have had exposure to specific web or mobile application development and roll-out (alternatively you will have evidence of appropriate personal projects within this space)
  • Proven experience working in a REST architecture environment (using and defining RESTful APIs)
  • Exposure to standard relational database technologies (e.g. MySQL) or non-relational database technologies (eg. MongoDB)
  • Knowledge of continuous integration (eg. Hudson, Maven, Jenkins, JUnit, SonarQube) & experience leading DevOps initiatives


In addition the following skills are desirable:


  • Experience leading and controlling quality of products through testing automation
  • Experience and interest in micro-service architecture and technologies such as Node or Go
  • Experience with performance optimisation
