Junior Engineer (IT Support)


My Client is looking to hire a Junior Engineer as part of its current Managed Services team, the candidate will need to show a keen interest in areas of technical solutions and time management. You should work well with other people but able to work on your own initiative too. A bit of enthusiasm goes a long way.

This permanent position is onsite in Carlow. The Junior Engineer position involves dealing with customer, logging, updating, and assisting with day to day running support desk. Continually updating company’s CRM system to keep support tickets current. You will be working with the technical team to deliver and manage customer requirements. You will need to be customer focused and be a strong communicator as you will also be liaising with customers to ensure the ticket is resolved to their satisfaction.


Requirement for the position are a good working knowledge of:

  • General IT troubleshooting
  • Windows Operating Systems – Server and Workstation (installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting)
  • Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Office 365
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Citrix (XenDesktop/XenApp, NetScaler)
  • Applications – general ability to install, maintain and troubleshoot Windows applications
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery
  • Hardware installation and maintenance (servers, workstations, NAS, SAN, firewall, etc.)
  • Printers – knowledge of how printing works (e.g. print servers, print drivers, IP printing)


Required Experience:

  • Degree or qualification in an engineering discipline or relevant experience
  • Previous site experience is advantageous
  • Experience in an IT support/help desk role
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting Windows operating systems and applications

  • Good communication skills - Maintain an effective two-way communication system with the service delivery coordinator and peers – ensuring all relevant information is freely shared.
  • Good organisational skills - Ensure that the Engineering and Support Desk CRM systems entries and all documentation is accurate, relevant and up to date at all time.
