Cloud Technologist - Principal Operations Engineer

Location: Dublin

An exciting new opportunity has opened for a Principal Operations Engineer, to be responsible for an Enterprise Cloud Computing (ECC) Cloud Operations DevOps team.

 

This new team will providing operational thought leadership for all Cloud related system & app stability monitoring, alerting & diagnostic automation across all major ECC products and services. This offers you a superb opportunity to implement major positive change to both ECC and its partners Cloud operations.

 

The Expertise We’re Looking For

 

  • You have 8+ years’ of experience in IT Operations: technology stacks, team leadership, working strategy and system implementation
  • You have 5+ years’ hands-on experience with IT Infrastructure operations: support and maintenance of network & data systems in particular
  • 2+ years’ experience of AWS / Azure Cloud implementation
  • Shown expertise with infrastructure related fault-analysis, diagnosis and remedy
  • Confirmed leadership experience – building new teams, establishing an operational framework, agreeing partner SLA’s, and mentoring teams & associates on standard methodologies
  • University / college qualifications preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent.

 

The Purpose of Your Role

 

You will be a member of the Cloud DevOps team under the umbrella of the ECC organization. A key differentiator for this team is that while it may help triage crucial Cloud related incidents, the majority of their energies will be diverted to collaborating with ECC teams, business partners, and vendor solution providers to create innovative operational automation and preventative solutions.

To that end, many of the development tasks faced by this new Cloud team will be intercepting a dynamic and a wide-array of internal & external API’s (AWS, Azure, DataDog, Concourse, etc.) to extract log & operational metrics data, to derive solutions that don’t yet exist, that help automate and improve Cloud system resilience and performance

As the role involves monitoring & diagnosing Cloud operational performance & behaviour, time will be dedicated to advising & guiding Cloud teams on cause-and-effect system analysis, using automated logging & telemetry data.

  • A good eye for discerning patterns in the data and being able to communicate this
  • Confirmed ability to build automated processes and integrate disparate systems, and in most cases trying something new, never done before
